2 Corinthians 1:4
...who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.
In Mark 4:35, we find the Disciples ran into some trouble: "That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, 'Let us go over to the other side.' Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, 'Teacher, don?t you care if we drown?' He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, 'Quiet! Be still!' Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, 'Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?'"
The Disciples weren't the only ones to experience a storm on the Sea of Galilee that day -- everyone did. But they received comfort. How? Because they had Jesus on board. It might take a year, five, ten or a lifetime for us to realize that all humanity is in the same boat. If not right now, we soon can expect to be thrown about by winds of sorrow or drowned in waves of despair. Unless we have Jesus. When we truly see Him, He who was made sin for us, it all makes sense. Who is the source of your comfort in times of trouble?
The Lord asks each one of us, "Do you still have no faith?" What is your response when things go wrong? Do you trust in the Lord regardless of whether it is a little inconvenience or a major heartbreak? Do you realize every storm, whether great or small, is an opportunity to learn compassion for people and gain confidence in God? Do others see the comfort of God in your life?
