“"No Different than Other Religions?"”

Galatians 5:4

You who are trying to be justified by the law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace.

Thoughts for Today:

Have you ever imagined yourself standing before God, and giving Him all the reasons you should be granted residency in Heaven? Would you point out how often you attended church? Would you pull out your list of how much you've tithed over the years, the number of times you've sacrificially served the poor, or taught Sunday school? How about those times when you held back your temper instead of letting it loose, or turned in the missing wallet you found with all the money in place? Those are all great things. And if entry to heaven was based on the merit system, and a comparison to humanity in general, I'm sure you would have a pretty good shot. Unfortunately, it is not.

So it doesn't matter if we're circumcised, baptized, how holy our lives are, or how adept we are at performing religious acts. We must never trust in any external action to produce justification with God. Why? Because we would be trusting in our own efforts to prove or gain our salvation. And if we place our faith in anything except Christ alone, then we are really no different than Muslims, Buddhists, any other religious group or thought process that relies on human acts rather than the blood of a Savior.

Questions to Ponder:

It is Jesus alone who saves and our confidence must only be placed in Him. So it's not Jesus plus what we do or anything else. Do you believe in the adequacy of His sacrifice? How is it expressed in your life?
